Hirsch, Thomas (1834 Apes Petition), 1795 -

Mashpee resident, Thomas Hirsch was the husband of Mary Sepit, a member of the Herring Pond tribe.  The couple had several children: Mary, Cyranus, Cordelia, Theodore, and Betsy.  Hirsch was a signatory to a January 1834 Mashpee petition written by William Apes.   Hirsch's name was added to that of 288 other Mashpee residents and community members complaining of a number of longstanding grievances against the overseers and the Congregational missionary to the tribe.  His death came before that of his wife in 1873, since in her death entry, she is listed as a widow.
