Deed from Samuel Adams to Timothy Root (1775)

To all People Whom These Presents Shall Come: Greeting 
 
Know you that we, Elijah Wampey, Solomon Mossuck, and Samuel Adams, all Natives of said Farmington in the County of Hartford, as we are appointed by the General Assembly of the Colony of Connecticut by and with the advice and direction of Colonel John Strong, Fisher Gay, Esq., and Elnathan Gridley to sell the land belonging [to] the descendants of the original tribe of Indians called the Tunxis Tribe, for the consideration of nine pounds lawful money received to our full satisfaction of Timothy Root of Farmington aforesaid and by the advice and direction of the said Colonel Strong and Elnathan Gridley, give, grant, bargain, sell, and confirm unto the said Timothy Root and to his heirs and assigns forever, one piece or parcel of land situate in said Farmington and is a part of the 70th Lot in the Southeast Division (so-called) and was laid out on the right of William Judd, formerly of said Farmington, deceased, and said granted part contains eighteen acres and lyeth undivided with the remainder of said lot, and the whole is butted and bounded as by the Proprietors' records in Farmington may appear, references thereto being made.  To have and to hold the above granted and bargained premises with the appurtenances thereof unto him, the said Timothy Root, and to his heirs and assigns forever, to his and their own proper use and behoof.  And also we, the said Elijah, Solomon, and Samuel, do for ourselves, and our heirs, executors, and administrators, covenant with the said Timothy Root and with his heirs and assigns that at and until the ensealing of these presents, we are well seized of the premises as a good indefeasible estate in fee simple and have good right to bargain and sell the same in manner and form as is above written. And that the same is free of all encumbrancers whatsoever.  And, furthermore, we, the said Elijah, Solomon, and Samuel do by these presents bind ourselves and our heirs forever to warrant and defend the above granted and bargained premises to him, the said Timothy Root, his heirs, and assigns, against all claims and demand whatsoever.
