Lucy D. Turner was the daughter of Robert Turner and Jane Job of Tisbury, Massachusetts. In 1850, she was living with her uncle and aunt, Isaac and Jemima Easton, in Tisbury. Born at Farm Neck, Edgartown, Massachusetts, John Saunders, Jr. was the son of John Saunders and Priscilla Cook, both of Virginia. In 1793, he was indentured as an apprentice servant to Melatiah Pease of Edgartown for a term of seventeen years. With his indenture completed, Saunders married Jemima Job of Deep Bottom, Tisbury on January 24, 1811. They had children John, Priscilla, Abiah, William Henry, James, and David. Saunders and family boarded Sarah Francis, a member of the Christiantown community, in 1824.
