An Account of Expences Layd Out for ye Country

An account of expenses laid out for the country from August 1645 until this 8th of October 1646.

First for the printing of five hundred declarations                                                                                           04.  00.  00

Item for the diet and washing of the two Indians since the 3rd of the 8th month: hitherto                                  

considering the attendance of the younger being a very child. what you think meet                                        16.  00.  00

Item for physic for James[1] during his sickness for five or six weeks                                              [ hole ] 19.  06

Item for physic for Jonathan[2] in that time of his sickness                                                                               00.  04.  60

Item for making them twelve bands and eight shirts and often mending their apparel                         00.  03.  08     

Item for buttons thread and other materials bought of Mr. Russell[3] for them                                                   00.  02.  06

Item for half a year’s schooling for James                                                                                           00.  06.  00

I pray thee to appoint me part of my pay, as far as that will reach, in the hands of Henry Shrimpton[4] both because I am engaged to him and he hath promised to accept that pay.  And if that the Indians require pay back at his hands I shall be ready to repay him such as they shall accept.

Further, whereas the Indians with me be so small as that they incapable of the benefit of such learning as was my desire to impart to them, and therefore they being an hindrance to me and I no furtherance to them,  I desire they may be somewhere else disposed of with all convenient speed. So, I rest in what I can.

The magistrates desire I [ illegible ] the Deputy’s to appoint some of themselves  and others with Mr. Secretary as a committee to examine the [ illegible ], and consider of some course for dispose the said [ illegible ] for the [ illegible ].

Mr. Treasurer and William Parkes[8] are appointed to join with Mr. Secretary as above is desired.

Edward Rawson[9]

We think meet Mr. Dunster should be paid twenty two pounds, sixteen shillings and two pence.  The magistrates consent to this return of the said committee.  John Winthrop, Governor consented to by the Deputy Edward Rawson.

For the diet of Mr. Polk[10] and two Indians                                           16 .  00 .  00

Paid to Mr. Sams[11] of Boston for apparel                                            02.. 00.  00

Due to Mr. Sams yet as appeareth by his book                                    04.  12.  00
