Hewitt, George, 1797 - 1884

George Williams Hewitt was the son of Eli Hewitt and Betsy Williams of North Stonington, Connecticut and the husband of Bridget Wheeler, daughter of Nathan Wheeler and Desire Williams.  In 1815, Hewitt let some of his cattle out in the Eastern Pequot Indian Town pasture.  He later removed to North Franklin, where he was a farmer.  He died in Groton, October 16, 1884.  Marshall, A Modern History of New London County, Vol. 3, 194.
