Bond for Erastus Williams, Overseer to the Western Pequot Indians

Know all men to whom these presents shall come that we, Erastus Williams of Groton as principal, and Stephen Haley of said Groton, as surety are holden and stand firmly bound into Isaac Spencer of Hartford in Hartford County, as he is Treasurer of the State of Connecticut, and to his successor in said office in the penal sum of one thousand dollars to the payment of which sum to the said Treasurer or to his successor in said office or to his or their certain attorney, we jointly and severally bind ourselves our heirs, executors and administrators firmly by these presents signed with our hands and sealed with our seals at Norwich in said County, this 10th day of March AD 1825.

The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounden Erastus Williams was by the County Court holden at Norwich in and for New London County on the first Tuesday of March AD 1825 appointed an overseer to the tribe of Indians inhabiting in the Town of Groton in said county (called the Pequot Indians) to have the care and management of their lands, etc. Now know ye that if the said Erastus Williams shall faithfully account, according to law, for the funds which are or may be hereafter in his hands belonging to said tribe, then said bond is to be void and in every other case to be in full force and virtue in law.

Dated at Norwich the year and day first above written.
