Bond for Elisha Crary, Overseer to the Western Pequot Indians

Know all men to whom these presents shall come that we, Elisha Crary of Preston in New London County as principal and Samuel Bailey of Norwich in said county as surety, are holden and stand firmly bound unto Isaac Spencer, as he is Treasurer of the State of Connecticut, and to his successor in said office in the penal sum of three hundred dollars. To the payment of which sum to the said Treasurer, Isaac Spencer, or to his successor in said office, we find ourselves, jointly and severally, our heirs, and the heirs, executors and administrators of each of us, firmly by these presents signed with our hands and sealed with our seals, at said New London County this 10th day of March AD 1824.

The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounden Elisha Crary hath been, by the County Court now sitting at New London in and for the County of New London, appointed Overseer to the Pequot Tribe of Indians residing in said County, to have the care and management of their lands etc. Now, if the said Elisha Crary shall faithfully account according to law for the funds which are or may be, in his hands, belonging to said tribe and shall annually state and settle his account of the concerns of said tribe, with said County Court then this bond is to be void and of no effect, and in every other case to be in full force and power in the law.
