Between the Thames and Connecticut Rivers, mostly at the mouth of the Connecticut River, around Niantic Bay and Niantic River, and in parts of modern East Lyme and Waterford, Connecticut

Algonquin. Y-dialect similar to the Pequot, Mohegan, Narragansett, and Montauk

Upon the Petition of Joseph Poquiantup of Lyme in New London County shewing to this Assembly that he is one of the Niantic Tribe of Indians in said Lyme and a number ago, he purchased a piece of broken woodland  of Captain Ezra Ely, late of said Lyme, deceased, and that he is old and poor and wants the avails of the sale of said land for his support, praying this Assembly to grant him liberty to sell the same as per petition on file, dated 10th day of May 1808.
