Eastern Pequot Reservation -- Amboosamous

While a part of the Pequot territorial homeland for time out of mind, the land around and upon Lantern Hill in present-day North Stonington, Connecticut became the reservation land-base for the Eastern Pequot Tribe, when the Colony of Connecticut purchased it for Momoho and his community in 1683.  Originally called Amboosamous, the reservation was surveyed and laid out two years later.  First, surrounded with wigwams and later American-styled houses, the land's gardens, fields, and pastures supported a thriving community.  To this day, the reservation, now approximately 224 acres, is home to many of the Eastern Pequot and the site of their burial grounds and ceremonial field.
