Trusler, John, Sr.

John Trusler, Sr. (?-April 2, 1766), was an enterprising cook who assumed control of the Rose Tavern and the proprietorship of Marylebone Gardens in 1746.  By midcentury, with its walking paths, refreshment stands, concerts and fireworks displays, he had turned the Gardens into a popular park, rivaling those at Chelsea (Ranelagh) and at Lambeth (the New Spring Garden, or Vauxhall).  In 1763, Trusler sold the establishment to the singer/actor Thomas Lowe.
