Plymouth

Plymouth (Patuxet "at the little falls") is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts within the traditional homeland of the Wampanoag.  The village of Patuxet was visited by English explorers Samuel de Champlain in 1605 and John Smith in 1614.  It was later struck by a series of plagues in the early 17th Century which killed most of its inhabitants.  With the arrival of the Pilgrims in 1620, it became the site of the first permanent  English settlement in New England.  Silverman, This Land is Their Land: The Wampanoag Indians, Plymouth Colony, and the Troubled History of Thanksgiving (2019).
