Chickemmoo

Chickemmoo ("fish weir") is part of the Wampanoag territory on Martha's Vineyard.  The northern part of the area was sold to Thomas Mayhew in 1658. The Sachem Nataquanum conveyed land there to Hannah Daggett in 1683, and there appears to have been an indenture between Thomas Butler and Isaac Ompanit at Chickemmoo in 1701.  Chickemmoo was part of Chilmark, Massachusetts' original three tracks but made part of Tisbury in 1736.  Pattook was the sachem there and served as a local Magistrate.Huden, Indian Place Names of New England.  Banks, The History of Martha's Vineyard, Vol. 2, http://history.vineyard.net/dukes/bnk2c_3.htm.
