Torrey, William, 1608 - 1690

William Torrey was the son of Philip Torrey and Alice Richards of Combe, St. Nicholas in Somersetshire, England.  He immigrated in 1640 to Weymouth, Massachusetts and there became magistrate, militia captain, and clerk of the Massachusetts House of Deputies (1650-1685).  In 1687 he authored Brief Discourse Concerning Futurities or Things to Come (Boston, 1757).  Representative Men and Old Families of Southeastern Massachusetts, Vol. 2 (Chicago: J.H.
