Bond for Ezra Hewitt, Overseer to the Eastern Pequot Tribe

Know all men to whom these presents shall come that we, Ezra Hewitt of North Stonington in the County of New London, as principal, and Elias Hewitt of North Stonington, as surety, are holden and stand jointly and severally bound and indebted to the Treasurer of the State of Connecticut1 in the sum of five hundred dollars, to the payment of which sum will and truly to be made and done to the said Treasurer of the State of Connecticut or his successor in said office.  We bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and administrators firmly by these presents signed with our hands and sealed with our seals at North Stonington in said County this March 24, 1834.
 
The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above named Ezra Hewitt was by the County Court holden at New London in New London County on the second Tuesday of February 18342 appointed overseer to the Pequot Indians residing in North Stonington in said County.  Now if the said Ezra Hewitt shall faithfully discharge the duties of said trust and shall, when required, render his account to said County Court of his management of said trust, said bond is to void but in every other
case to be in full force.
