Pomp, John, 1777 -

John Pomp was possibly the son of Samuel Pomp of Groton, Connecticut.  He married Sarah Shon on January 29, 1799, but the couple divorced in September of 1813.

In October of 1800, Jacob and Anne Pompey transferred to him fourteen acres bounded by Pohegenot Pond and Samuel Pompey's land in Groton.  Three years later, Pomp sold two-thirds of his property with buildings to Peter Avery II.  From other records, it appears that Pomp resided in North Stonington by at least 1816, when he was a crew member on a vessel leaving the port of New London.  Pompey returned to the sea in 1825, 1826, and 1830.
