Mossuck, Solomon, 1723 - 1802

Born in 1723, Solomon Mossuck was a member of the Tunxis community at Farmington, Connecticut.  His wife was Eunice Wawowos, and the couple had at least four children, Daniel, Lucy, Solomon, and Luke.  Mossuck joined the Farmington Congregational Church in 1763.  Eunice did the same two years later.  He was a landowner purchasing property as early as 1747 at Indian Neck and Pequabuck Meadow.  In 1777, Mossuck received four acres in Lot 7 in the First Tier, four acres in Lot 18 in the Second Tier, and two more acres Lot 1 in the Indian Neck settlement.  According to a 1954 article in the Hartford Courant, his house was near present-day Depot Road.

 

Mossuck served as one of the Tunxis leaders, negotiating with Farmington authorities over Indian Neck in 1769-70 and overseeing the community's efforts to remove to the Brothertown in upstate New York.  Yet, it appears that he and Eunice did not immigrate there but died in Farmington.   He died January 25, 1802, at the age of 78, and is buried in the Indian Cemetery in Farmington.
