Summons for Samuel Smith

To Either of Farmington Constables in Hartford County, Greeting,

In his Majesty’s name you are hereby commanded to summon and give notice unto Samuel Smith, Jr.  of said Farmington to appear before the Honorable General Assembly of the Colony of Connecticut to be convened at New Haven on the second Thursday of October instant if he see cause to appear on the next Tuesday after said Thursday then and there to defend John Thompson of said Farmington in one piece or parcel of land in said Farmington at a place called the Indian Neck, containing two acres butted east on land of Ezekiel Cowles in part and part on land on said John Thomas, west part on Elijah Cowles and part on land of Captain Solomon or Amos Cowles, north partly on land lately belonging to Elnathan Strong and the Mr. Cyprian Strong and partly on land of Elijah Cowles, south on land of said John Thomson, as by the said Samuel Smith deed to the said John Thomson made and dated the 27th day of September A.D. 1763 may more fully appear by which deed he, the said Samuel, covenanted and bound himself, his heirs, etc., to warrant and defend to the said John Thomson, etc., which said land is now as referring to and touching the title thereof contested and challenged from the said John Thomson in and by a petition lying and depending before the said General Assembly wherein James Wawowos, a Native of said Farmington, in behalf of himself and the rest of the tribe of Indians belonging to said Farmington are petitioners and the said John Thomson and others are petitioners.

Hereof fail not and due return make,
