Petition of John Hector to the Massachusetts General Court

To the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in General Court Assembled

The petition of John Hector respectfully represents that he is a member of the Hassanamisco Tribe of Indians under the guardianship of the Commonwealth, that he is a legal heir of Moses Gimbee,1 deceased, during his lifetime was seized and possessed of a certain tract of land lying on Connecticut River in the Town of Winchester, New Hampshire,2 that your petitioner is poor and needy, and, being under guardianship, cannot, of himself, reclaim and take possession of said land. Wherefore, he prays that Colonel Charles Brigham of Grafton, Guardian of said Tribe of Indians, may be authorized by you to proceed and take possession of said land, and, if need be, to sell the same so that your petitioner may have the benefit of the same for his maintenance and subsistence.
