Bill in Form on the Petition of Esther Mazeen

Upon the petition of Esther Meazon, one of the Mohegan Tribe of Indians, shewing to this Assembly that the petitioner is the possessor of a certain piece of land lying in said Mohegan containing about one acre and three-quarters and is bounded northerly by land belonging to Hannah Raymond, westerly and southerly by land belonging to George Raymond, and easterly by land belonging to John Leach, and that she is the sole heir to said piece of land, and that the same has descended to her from the ancient and respectable Uncas family, and that the same is separate more than half a mile from any other land by her owned, and that the fence round said lot of land are much out of repair, and she unable to improve or rent the same to any advantage to herself or family, and that she is a widow woman and has a family of five children to support, and that she has at considerable expense erected the frame of a house on her other lands and is unable to finish the same, and that she may have liberty to sell the said lot of land under the direction of James Fitch, Esq., one of the overseers of said Mohegan Tribe or such other person as this Assembly may see fit to appoint, as per petition on file dated the 6th day of May 1808.

Resolved by this Assembly that said Esther have liberty and liberty is hereby granted her to sell her said lot of land under the direction of the said James Fitch, Esq., one of said Indian overseers, and that said Fitch receive the avails of said land of the purchase and pay over the same to the petitioner, as her necessities may require.
