Hutchinson, Thomas, 1711 - 1780

Thomas Hutchinson was the son of Thomas Hutchinson and Sarah Foster of Boston, Massachusetts.  A graduate of Harvard College, he became a selectman of Boston in 1737 and a member of the Massachusetts General Court (House of Representatives, 1737-1738, 1742-1749 (Speaker 1746-1749); Council (1749- ).  In 1749, he led the Province's delegation in treating with the Indians in Maine and in 1754 was a delegate to the Albany Convention.  Hutchinson served as the Province of Massachusetts' Lieutenant Governor (1758-1771), Acting Governor (1760-1771) and Governor (1771-1774).
