Huntington, Jabez, 1719 - 1786

Jabez Huntington (Yale 1741) was the son of Joshua Huntington and Hannah Perkins of Norwich, Connecticut.  Huntington became a wealthy merchant, pursuing the West Indian trade.  In 1750 he was elected to the Connecticut General Assembly. He became a major general of the Connecticut Militia from 1776 to 1779.  In his career, Huntington was involved in Indian affairs for the Assembly as well as serving on legislative committees for Western Pequot in 1766 and Mohegan 1774.  Frances Manwaring Caulkins, History of Norwich, Connecticut (Hartford: Case, Lockwood & Brainard, 1874), 415-416.
