Wadsworth, James, - 1817
James Wadsworth (Yale 1748) was the son of James and Abigail Wadsworth of Durham, Connecticut. Wadsworth was a lieutenant in the militia (1753) and served at Ticonderoga in 1758 and 1759 as a captain. In 1775 he became a colonel in the 10th Regiment and rose to brigadier general after the siege of Boston in 1776. In 1756 he was elected town clerk for Durham and served as that town’s representative to the General Assembly from 1759 to 1785. He became a justice of the peace (1762) and was appointed Assistant Judge of the New Haven County Court (1773). Dexter, Biographical Sketches of the Graduates of Yale College.
