Mashpee

Mashpee ("the great cove") is a Town in Barnstable, Massachusetts in the territorial homeland of the Wampanoag.  It was settled by English colonists in 1660 and incorporated in 1870. Within Mashpee remains an Indian settlement, which, in 1665, was self-governing.  It was integrated into the colonial district of Mashpee in 1763 and its self-governing status abolishing fifteen years later.
