Shilling, Thankful

Thankful Shilling was a Native woman from the Connecticut River tribal communities with connections to the Wangunk and Tunxis communities.  In 1769, she purchased a little more than an acre of land and a dwelling house from James and Rachel Wawowos and David and Sarah Towsey.  At that time, Thankful was living in Middletown.  It is possible she was the Thankful Cushoy that presented a Wangunk petition to the General Assembly in 1760 along with Hannah Mamanash, Susannah Pockamoges, and Samuel and Moll Robbins.
