Lyman, Robert, 1629 -
Robert Lyman (1629- ) was the son of Richard Lyman and Sarah Osborne of High Ongar, Essex, England. he and his family immigrated to Roxbury, Massachusetts in 1631 and removed with Hooker's party to Hartford, Connecticut. Characterized as "a man of roving habits and withal something of a hunter, he spent much time in wandering about the country." Around 1679, he discovered a lead mine in Northampton, Massachusetts, and with other family members later settled there. Trumbull, History of Northampton, Massachusetts, 358.
