Osgood, Erastus, 1780 - 1867

Dr. Erastus Osgood was born on March 14, 1780 in Pomfret, Connecticut, the son of Capt. William, Jr. and Mary Scarborough Osgood. He married Martha Morgan on July 9, 1806.  The couple had seven children, all of whom were raised in Lebanon, Connecticut.

While likely only one of countless patients that Dr. Osgood served during his more than four decades in practice, Daniel Toby, a Pequot man, benefitted from six weeks of Osgood medical attendance in January and February of 1820.  The expense for said care was settled by the overseer of the Mashantucket Pequot Indians.

In addition to his medical career for which he was renowned, Dr. osgood was also much engaged in civic affairs, serving as representative to the Legislature as well as a district Senator, among other capacities. He died at the age of 87 on December 22, 1867 and was buried in Yantic Cemetery in Norwich, Connecticut.
