(Brushell), Sylvia

Sylvia Brushell was the wife of the mariner Moses Brushell, both Eastern Pequots.  They had at least two children, John and Tamer.

When Moses was at sea, the Eastern Pequot overseer supplied her with food in 1833.  Three years later, tribal funds were used to provide Sgt. Peleg Hancox and businessman Charles P. Phelps, both of Stonington Borough, with funds for boarding her.  Whether through death, separation, or divorce, Sylvia's marriage to Moses ended before June 1839, when he married Hannah Shelly.

Brown and Rose, Black Roots, 50.
