Thompson, John, Lt., 1616 -

Lt. John Tompson (1616-  ) came from Wales to Plymouth, Massachusetts around 1622 and worked as a carpenter. He was part of the expedition against the Narragansetts in 1645 and during King Philip's War, he took a number of Indians as prisoners.  Tompson served as the Constable of Plymouth, selectman from Middleborough, a Deputy to the General Court.  He purchased numerous tracts of Indian land.  Lora Altine Woodbury Underhill, Edward Small and His Descendants, Vol. 1 (Cambridge, MA: Riverside Press, 1910) 482-484.
