Petition of Peter Ephraim and Others to the Governor and Council of Massachusetts
To the Much Honoured Governor and the Honoured Counsel Now Sitting in Boston
The humble petition of Peter Ephraim, John Awassamug, and others in behalf of themselves and the other Indians, owners (of Hassanamesit land), humbly complains and inform that one Thayer[1] of Braintree and others make large pretenses to the land of Hassanamesit, by virtue as they say of a will of John Wampus, who had no legal right there, as they shall demonstrate, being ordered to attend upon the Worshipful William Stoughton and Joseph Dudley, Esqs. , to make out their right, they find themselves interrupted and aggrieved by said Thayer, and humbly pray the said Thayer and others may be called to an account to make out the justice of their claim that the said Indians may be thereby directed in their land or management of their concerns.
And so we shall remain Your Honor's humble servants and shall ever pray for your prosperity
