Mattison (Peters), Charlotte, - 1824

Charlotte Peters was the daughter of Samuel Peters and Patience Johnson of Chappaquiddick, Massachusetts.  Around 1789, she married William Mattison.  They had Samuel, Elizabeth, William, Love, and Michael.  After her husband's disappearance sometime around 1800, Charlotte signed a number of Chappaquiddick petitions to the Massachusetts Legislature.  In 1810, she and a number of other women wrote to the Corporation of Harvard to approve the appointment of a missionary and to request funding for their children's education.  At her death in 1828, her household owned seventeen acres of land but no livestock.  Pierce and Segel, Wampanoag Families of Martha's Vineyard, 513-515.
