Wampus, - 1651

Wampus was from a prominent Nipmuck family at Hassanamessit.  His brothers were Thomas and Anthony Tray.  Wampus and his wife were some of the early Nipmuck converts to Christianity, and the pair’s theological questions and confessions appear in John Eliot’s writings.  It is not clear how many children they may have had, but at least one, John, was instructed by Eliot and attended Harvard College.  Michael P.
