Thomas, Ezekiel

In April of 1819, Ezekiel Thomas was a signatory to a petition for the appointment of a new overseer. He, along with 24 others from the Mashantucket Pequot community, petitioned the New London County Court for the appointment of Captain Eneas Morgan.  Several years later, Ezekiel’s name was included on a list of Pequot individuals and submitted to the New London County Court in March of 1825. It is likely that there is a familial relationship between Ezekiel Thomas and Jacob Thomas, also on the list.

Little else is known of Ezekiel Thomas.  The surname Thomas is not a common one and does not appear to persist within the community.  It is possible that this is an example of a father’s given name being applied as a surname.
