Russell, John, 1687 - 1757
John Russell (Yale 1704) was the son of Rev. Samuel Russell (1660-1731) and Abigail Whiting of Branford, Connecticut, and the husband of Sarah Trowbridge, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Trowbridge of New Haven, Connecticut. Russell was Branford’s town clerk for more than twenty years, justice of the peace, and deputy to the Connecticut General Assembly, where he served as speaker of the Lower House in 1751. He also was lieutenant colonel in the militia and deacon of the First Church of Branford.
