Raymond, Sherwood, 1786 - 1846

Sherwood Raymond (October 28, 1786-December 31, 1846) was the son of Christopher Raymond and Anna Mason of Montville, Connecticut.  A farmer on property once owned by his grandfather, he was a businessman and held many town offices -- a representative to the General Assembly and a justice of the peace.
Sherwood Raymond was a member of a Joint Committee on Mohegan land matters for the Connecticut General Assembly in 1831.  Seven years later, the Connecticut Legislature authorized him to sell two tracts of Mohegan land at public or private sale, in line with the petition of Jacob Cooper and other tribal members.  Find A Grave (Raymond Hill Cemetery, Montville, CT).  Acts and Resolves (Connecticut 1838), 58-59.  Hurd, History of New London County, 571.
