Joseph Poquiantup was a member of the Niantic Tribe in the East Society of Lyme, Connecticut. He may have been the son of Samson Poquiantup and Hannah Justice (the aunt of Samson Occom). He was the brother of Isaac Poquiantup. While his wife has not been identified, they had at least one child, Dolly. In 1762, Joseph was one of many tribal signers of an agreement settling a controversy over the Upper 100 Acre lot of Niantic land. Two years later, he and Isaac bought several tracts of land in the East Society and added to their property over the years. By October 1793, declaring he was old and infirm, he requested permission to sell some of his land. Joseph Poquiantup died sometime after May 1808 and May 1809.
