Parsons, Samuel Holden, 1737 - 1789

Samuel Holden Parsons (Harvard 1756) was the son of Jonathan Parsons and Phoebe Griswold of Lyme, Connecticut, husband of Mehitable Mather, and a nephew of Connecticut Governor Matthew Griswold (1714-1799).  Parsons represented Lyme at the Connecticut General Assembly from 1762 until 1774 and was appointed King’s Attorney of New London County in 1773.  He served as major of the 14th Connecticut Militia in 1770 and promoted to colonel of the 6th Connecticut Regiment in 1775, in which position he commanded at the Battle of Bunker Hill.  After the war, Parsons removed to Marietta, Ohio in the Northwest Territory.  As a commissioner, he represented the Ohio Company in negotiations with the various tribes on the Connecticut Reserve.  Charles Hall, Life and Letters of Samuel Holden Parsons (Binghamton, N.Y.: Otseningo Publishing Company, 1905), 2-8, 461-488.
