Pamepumhate (James)

Pamepumhate (before 1638-after 1688), alias Pamepumkote or James, was a Cowesett Indian who was living at Tunxis at least from 1673 to 1688.  His wife was Anabudods’ daughter.  The couple had two sons, Chuchu (bc. 1650), Cocosawan, and two daughters, Wechumunke and Werumcaske.  In 1674, Pamepumhate's name appears on a deed as one of the several owners and proprietors of Mattatuck.  Orcut, Old Town of Derby, xxxv.  Addition sources come from the Digital Heritage Items below.
