Main, Benajah, 1749 -

Benajah Main was the son of Thomas Main and Mary Pendleton of Stonington, Connecticut.  He married Mary Brown.  After her death, he married Martha (Patty) Gavitt.  He and his family lived in North Stonington, where Main worked as a farmer.

When he was 27, Main enlisted as a private in Captain Ebenezer Witter's Fourth Company of Seldon's Connecticut Regiment.  Raised in June 1776, the battalion reinforced Washington in New York City and on Long Island. He served until December 25, 1776.
