Haley, Stephen, 1772 - 1854
Stephen Haley was born July 5, 1772 in Groton, Connecticut, the son of Caleb and Mary Holmes Haley. He married Lucy Gallup, at the age of 31, on December 1, 1803 in Groton. The couple had seven children. Stephen Haley was a prominent figure in the civic affairs of the Town of Groton, serving, over the course of his long life, as town-collector, deputy sheriff, selectmen, representative to the Connecticut General Assembly (1814), officer in the Mystic National Bank (1833), and as Judge of Probate (Stonington District 1836-1838) (Groton District 1839). Stephen Haley died October 18, 1854 in Groton, CT, at the age of 82.
