Geer, Joseph, 1790 - 1864

Joseph Geer was born February 16, 1790 in the North Society of Groton, Connecticut, the son of David Geer, Sr. and Mary Stanton. Joseph married Lura Witter on February 21, 1816 in Groton with the Rev. John Hyde presiding over the ceremony.  Between 1817 and 1838 the couple had four daughters.  By 1860 the Federal Census for Ledyard enumerated 70-year-old Joseph, his wife, Lura, several of their daughters, as well as, one farmhand on a prosperous farm.
 
Joseph Geer died on April 9, 1864 and was buried in the New Poquetanuck Cemetery in neighboring Preston, Connecticut
