Fagins, Abby, 1823 - 1902
Born in North Stonington in early 1823, Abby Fagins was a member of the Eastern Pequot Tribal community. In the 1850 census for North Stonington, she is living in the household of merchant Oliver Hewitt, most likely as a servant. A year later, she married John Randall, Jr., on November 27, 1851. The couple had five children: John J. (1852), Joseph R. (1853), Florence (1858), Alexander (c. 1859), and a daughter who lived only a few days. Abby's name appears in the Eastern Pequot overseers' reports as Abby Fagins/Jack/Randall (1864-67), Abby Jaks (1868-1875), and Abby Rand (1889-1891). In the 1900 North Stonington census, she is living with her son, John, with an occupation of a laundress.
