Cooper, James , 1782 -

James Cooper was the son of Thomas Cooper of Gay Head, Massachusetts, and the husband of Elizabeth Johnson, marrying in 1805.  They had one child, Rufus.  Cooper remarried next to a woman named Desire, the widow of Benjamin Stokes.  Cooper worked briefly as a coal miner and whaler. Pierce and Segel, Wampanoag Families of Martha's Vineyard, 164.
