Cooper, Charles, 1790 - 1855
Charles Cooper, the son of Joshua Cooper and Tabitha Occom, was a member of the Mohegan community at Montville, Connecticut. He and his wife Esther Mazeen had several children: Joshua, Henry, Peter George, Charles, and Ezekiel. In 1807, he was a mariner. His Seaman's Protection Certificate indicated that he was 5'6". By 1831 he and Esther owned about two hundred acres composed of several lots. In that year, they petitioned the Connecticut General Assembly for permission to sell some of that property to be able to provide themselves vital supplies. Brown and Rose, Black Roots, 92.
