Chummuck, Bethia (1808)

Bethia Chummuck was a member of the Herring Pond Indian community, most likely kin of Jacon Chummuck, a soldier in Gorham's Rangers during the French & Indian War. In 1808, she signed a petition to the Massachusetts General Court, protesting another petition that advanced positions contrary to the interests of the Herring Pond and Black Ground Indians.  1808.01.28.00.  Caroll, "'Savages: in the Service of the Empire."
