Corbitant

Corbitant was a powerful Pocasset sagamore under Massasoit with a principal village in Mattapoiset, (the present town of Swansea, Massachusetts).  His daughter was Weetamoe.  In 1621, Corbitant attempted to disrupt Massasoit's alliance with the English by killing Squanto, the translator, arguing with him dead, "the English had lost their tongue."  Philbrick, Mayflower, 113.
