Williams, #William (Pequot Overseer), 1780 - 1853

Judge William Williams (October 13, 1780-February 24, 1853) was the son of Captain William Williams and Prudence Stanton of Groton, Connecticut.  The General Assembly appointed him overseer to the Western Pequot Indians at Mashantucket in 1813.  Serving as a selectman from Groton (1816-1817), he later became Judge of the Probate District of Stonington (1819-1831).  The jurisdiction included Stonington, Groton, Ledyard, and North Stonington. Williams lived on Cider Hill in Ledyard, as did his brother, Judge Erastus Williams.  He died in there in early winter of 1853.
